Brief History with Recent Achievement

The department of Physiotherapy was one of the departments inherited from General Hospital, Sagamu at inception of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in 1986. The department was formally an old Gymnasium but later expanded to what it is now under the headship of Mrs. I.S. Afolabi (the former Head of Department). A lot of transformation has since taken place in the department till date. Records in the department showed that close to a hundred Physiotherapy Interns have undergone internship training till date in the department since the accreditation of the Hospital in 1994. As at the time of writing this report, the department has work force of fifteen staff (among which are nine Physiotherapists, One Youth Corper, Three Interns and Three Attendants). There was a formal inauguration of Stroke Survival Group Club, OOUTH Branch at the World Physiotherapy Day Celebration on September 8, 2015. In 2015, few equipment was purchased by the present Management which has helped to increase the department’s revenue generation.
Our role in the hospital involves evaluating, diagnosing and treating individuals of all ages from newborns to the oldest, who have medical problems or health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. We examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function and prevent disability. In addition, we work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and-wellness oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyle.

OUR GOAL
To provide holistic and goal oriented evidence based management, aimed at rehabilitating and improving the quality of life in patients/clients with impairments and disabilities, through prompt, efficient and effective care and services at all times.
