PHARMACY

The department has five sections viz Out-patient, Ward Pharmacy, Drug compounding, Drug Information Services and Drug Store.

OUT PATIENT UNIT (OPD):
Most times Pharmacy (OPD) is the last port to be visited by a patient that has come to the hospital for treatment. Pharmacist (Drug Consultants) are therefore placed in a situation where they need to counsel the patients on the usage and the expected side effects of the prescribed drugs. They are also expected to advice the prescribers on drug interaction and or contraindications.

IN PATIENT/WARD PHARMACY UNIT:
This unit take care of the (i) Issuance of drugs (including disinfectants) dressings to the Ward and other Units within the hospital (ii) Dispensing of drugs to In-patients.

IN-HOUSE MANUFACTURING/COMPOUNDING
This unit deals with manufacturing and compounding of both external and internal preparations of some mixtures,ointments, lotions and applications
With provision of some simple equipments, more items (both sterile and non sterile) could be manufactured for the hospital use.

DRUG INFORMATION SERVICES
Information services is an essential function of the of the department towards the prescribers and patients alike. This may be on request from any section of the hospital or it may be voluntarily from the department has to communicate to the appropriate section.

DRUG STORE UNIT
Proper storage and record keeping of drugs and dressings received and issued out of the store are the major functions of this unit.

ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY PHARMACY
This unit deals with the supply of drugs, devices, counselling and other due services to patients (esp road traffic accident victims)
and to health professionals at the emergency section of the Hospital.
DIABETES PHARMARCY
This unit provide services to diabetes patients, like diabetes health education on drug you and lifestyle modifications counselling.
